Dont book any vehicles over phone and internet. When you reach guwahati, you will get a lot of taxi operators plying passengers from Ghy to Tawang. My point of view is that they should not charge more than 2,000/ to 2500/- per day. Let me check and get back to you.

If you are travelling with your family then it is always advisable to hire the car from a responsible transporter instead of hiring the car from the taxi stand. Generally the charges for vehicle is around Rs. 2500 - Rs. 2700 on per day basis.

Tawang

You can go to Tawang throughout the year although the Se La pass (on the road from Bomdila to Tawang) can occasionally get snowed down resulting in temporary road closures. It can be pretty cold - when I was there in Dec, it was sub-zero. You can drive from Tezpur in a day, but if you don't want to rush it, you can halt at either Bomdila or Dirrang, mid way.

Hi,

I saw your itinerary. I wish to go to NE during Dec end with my family of 4 people. I have planned an itinerary which i have mentioned below. Pl do have a look and let me know the formalities that i have to do like getting permits ( from where ?), necessary documents required.

Also pl do suggest some good hotels for stay at all the places. I have listed out some hotels which was referred by one of my friend.

Khaziranga --- Aranya Guest House
Nameri --- Eco Camp
Tezpur --- Hotel Luit
Bomdila --- Sepal Yingzom
Tawang --- Tawang Inn
Guwahati --- Siroy Lily

Let me know if any one has better hotels in the range of 750 to 1000 than the above mentioned.

the itinerary is mentioned below

Is Madhuri lake worth seeing or can that be skipped.?

Day 1 - Reach Jorhat and and drive to Kaziranga,Halt at Kaziranga.
Day 2 - Morning elephant safari and followed by jeep safari and drive to Nameri. Halt at Eco Camp.
Day 3 - A day trip to Majuli and get back to Tezpur. Halt at Tezpur.
Day 4 - Morning we leave for (6-7Hrs) Bomdila, enroute tipi and halt at Bomdilla.
Day 5 - Leave Bomdila for Tawang enroute sella pass -7 Hrs Halt at Tawang .
Day 6 - Tawang local sightseeing
Day 7 - visit Madhuri lake ( 2 Hrs)
Day 8 - Early morning we leave Tawang for Guwahati. Halt at Guwahati.
Day 9 - Local sightseeing at Guwahati.
Day 10 - Guwahati to Bagdogra

It is a heaven on earth. The drive from Tawang to Madhuri Lake along Tawang Lhasa highway is awesome.Just ensure you have ample warm clothing, adequate spares and off course food n water with you as there was nothing once you leave Tawang(as of Oct,2007) and any glitch in your vehicle could make you to fast for the day.Remember, the altitude of Madhuri Lake is around 14800 ft, don't trust on local drivers in case of any delays. They are used to the conditions. But once the sun goes down or hides under cloud cover , it can be quite windy & temperature will go down rapidly.Oh, it is Dec, so there are chances of severe snowfall.Be in touch with Army personnel in any such event, they will secure your safety.
