Arunachal Pradesh
I am planning to travel to Arunachal Pradesh in End Sept or beginning Oct 2009. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me as what are the hotel options in Tezpur, Dirang, Tawang, Bomdila and what would be Tariff. Apart from that if i rent a car for 7 passengers for 8 or 9 nights how much it will cost from Tezpur per day.

A Sumo should be Rs. 1500 + Fuel per day. On these hills account for 6-7 Kms/Ltr. That should give you an idea about the taxi cost!
There is a Sumo stand in Tezpur. You may contact Deepak at 09864182449. For stay you may go for Hotel Buddha (Rs. 1000 onwards) at Twang. At Bomdilla there is a Govt. run tourist lodge and many small hotels. In Dirang you may stay at Hotel Pemaling or Dirang Resort (Rs. 650 onwards) Quote:

The Pemaling Hotel in Dirang is a very good choice. You can telephone on 03780-222215 and speak to Mr. Kalu or Mr. Bhim.
In Tawang you might try the Tawang Inn. Telephone 03794-224096 (Mr. Suman). In Bomdila, the Monastery Guest House, run by Ms. Sonam Chokey, telephone 03782 223232. In the area close to Tezpur but across the Arunachali border, there is a place nearby to Bhalukpong, called "Elephanta", where you can stay at "The Retreat". Call Mrs. Angu or Mr. Goba on 09436045197 or 09436674006. I really recommend this place. Very quiet, scenic, excellent food. It overlooks a river and although they are still building the extension it is peaceful. When they finish the new rooms it will be even more idyllic. It is a good place to break your journey between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. It depends how many days you have in hand. But your stated plan of 8 or 9 days sounds perfect. Go slowly, enjoy the views, aste aste. When you reach the Sela Pass don't forget to stop at the chai dhaba for a ginger tea.

I am sorry, niladrib, I can't tell you the tariffs because our trip was organized on a per diem basis by a travel agent.
You may care to read my recent travellogues, Last Chicken in Tawang, Mechuka Madness, and Archery in Bhalukpong, all of which you would find in this same forum! How many days? That is a hard question... how long is a piece of string? Joking aside, I think you have set aside a perfect amount of time in 8 or 9 days in order to acclimatize yourselves to the altitude gradually and not to get too exhausted by the trip. Because make no mistake those roads are just horrible. It is more than worth it though for the scenery and the sightseeing and especially for the wonderful people. Central Arunachal travel circuit
If you are interested in exotic natural beauty of jungles and tribes and can shift your programme to late october I would suggest you the follow circuit .
From North Lakhimpur (accesible by train from Rangia train station near Guwahati) take sharetaxi (sumo) to Ziro , then take share taxi from Ziro to Daporijo and then similarly from Daporijo to Along to Pasighat. If you have more time take another share taxi from Pasighat to Dibrugarh and then from Tinsukia to Tezu. The people are very friendly in Tezu and you can have good budget hotels there. The Mishmi tribes are really very good looking and somewhat modern people .From Tezu to Heiylung is really a thrilling expierence in a bus. |
