Excellent! Any more info? - places to stay, things to see, alternative ways of getting there? We would like to go to Tawang on our next trip to India, but will not be going by bike!

Delhi - Guwahati - Tawang - Shillong

DAY 1
We started from Guwahati in the morning. Took Arunachal state transport bus to Bomdilla around 6 or 7 am. Bus driver took first break at Tezpur for about half an hour.

Reached Bhalukpong at noon. Driver halted for lunch break and meanwhile we got our permits checked. This is the border of Arunachal Pradesh and here starts the mountains.

Reached Bomdilla around 1700 hrs and stayed at the Govt. Rest house.

DAY 2
Started for Tawang in a Sumo as the bus doesn’t go beyond Bomdilla. Reached Tsela pass at noon. Reached Tawang in evening and stayed at PWD resthouse, the best place to stay in Tawang as you can see the Tawang monastery from some of its room.

DAY 3
Wasted the whole day in getting the permits for Madhuri and Ptso Lake, which is on the way to Bumla pass or the border of Tibet (China). Visited the Tawang monastery and the War memorial in the evening.

DAY 4

We reached PTtso lake early morning. Came back Tawang before noon as the distance between these two places is easily covered in around 1-2 hours. Then started our return journey. Due to time constraints we were running like anything. Reached Bomdilla in the evening and again took another Sumo for Tezpur where we reached at mid night.

DAY 5

Took a Assam state transport bus for Guwahati and then a Sumo for Shillong.

It was a family trip.

Mod Note

Hi Vishal. While we have no objections to members linking to their blogs - putting a post into a thread with nothing else except a link to your blog isn't really useful to anyone (it doesn't answer any questions and provides no additional information to the thread). In addition, we try to encourage people to contribute to the body of knowledge here, rather than using IndiaMike as an indexing service. As a suggestion, you can put a link to your blog in your signature - in that way it will appear every time you submit a post. Thanks for your understanding with this.

Hi mountaintrekker. Nice information. Do we need to take separate permission from Ptso and Madhuri lake?
I am confused. SAame Arunachal Permit will not work.

Point noted moderators.
For Madhuri Lake, I think separate permit is required. Not very sure as we didn't go there. For PTTso Lake the ILP will do.

Have any westerners been to Tawang/Arunachal recently? I read somewhere that the RAP restriction is not as strict as it used to be, i.e. two people can do it. Also, has any westerner done it without the aid of a tour operator?
