| Are any of the victims tourists? I imagine to keep the heat off of them, they stick to locals. |

| Amateur Photographer | Guys, I have been traveling to bihar a lot, I haven't heard any tourist affected yet. For Nitish.. Give him some time guys.. Kidnapping is very organized crime, and local politician and goons are all involved.. quick and easiest way of earning money.. But remember they would not kidnap anyone on the road until they are very sure they are going get something out of it.. so there is nothing to be scared about.. How do we forget, as Uttam said such crime is all over India, pick any state.. Is delhi safe for that matter ?? |

| Before I went to India I saw a report about "groom kidnapping" in Bihar. One of the strangest things I've ever come across. It was about families who kidnapped a bachelor and forced him to get married to their daughter. One forced groom said that he was "happily married now". But the other family was complaining that the guy ran away and now their poor daughter was left alone and no other guy would marry her anymore as she was already married.... what did they expect ![]() |

| second hand info A Norweigian I met in Calcutta informed me that he did not feel welcome in Bihar -- by the authorities anyway. He found the local people very welcoming (he had directly arranged a home stay with a working class family in a small town) He was interrogated by the police just for BEING there. He was also told "you could be murdered and your body would never be found." The creepy sense he had was that they did not mean the threat came from Naxalites... |

Just dont step out of Gaya station at night once you land there. Take a taxi or autorickshaw in the morning. | |
