Visit Daringbadi
You may say that Daringbadi is very much off the beaten track; but some view this place as the ‘Kashmir of Orissa’, a pretty hill station, about 100 km from Phulbani in Kandhamal District, Orissa. Convenient rail-head is Berhampur, 130 kms from Daringbadi. Situated at an altitude of 3000 ft above sea level, the place offers dense jungles, coffee plantations and beautiful valleys. It is an ideal summer resort.

Hi jitamanyu
I have driven to Daringbadi on my bike during my tour of Orissa and quite agree it is a lovely spot. I have lucky to have traversed almost ALL of Orissa and discover how beautiful this state is. Unfortunately, it has no real infastructure for tourism and subsequently most foreign tourist are stuck in Puri thus missing out the lush jungles, valleys and rivers that make up this beautiful state.

Namaskar Britishraj
Thanks for your observations. Since you have travelled widely in Orissa, kindly suggest a few off the beaten track places which have been of interest to you and the infrastructure support those places should have.Feedback from you would be of real value. |

Guys, There is a place called Gahirmatha, in Kendrapada District. Rich Mangrove forest, alligators, and all saline reptiles...Can move around by Motor Boats, its a wonderful adventure spot.
Then There is Hookitola : A british light house, built some 100 years back in a small island near Mahanadi delta in Mahakalpada Block of Kendrapada District. Rich Forest, Sea Reptiles, and yes Great sea food..crab, fish, prawn... You know, these places are terrific adventure spots (Straight out of Animal Planet!)but alas noone knows what tourism is in these palces, no Infra no hotels.. Simply u have to book a cab and reach these spots that too some on local transport/boats etc. |
