Swimming pools for public use in Puri
Hi IMs, I am just off to Puri from Calcutta and having read up about the place, the beach doesn't sound like a good place to swim. Therefore I am looking for some hotels that have public use for a fee. Anyone know any? I know there is one on the hotel listing (can't remember the name) but it does say that it might not allow public access at high season which is now. So if you have any info on that, I would be very grateful. Also any spa/massage places that are nice and professional? I am happy to pay a bit more for good pampering. A happy Christmas and peaceful New Year to all IMs! Take care whereever you are and thanks for all the help Noz x

Hi Noz
There are several hotels in Puri where you may use the swimming pool for a fee. In fact this is what I do as the beach / sea is shitty along the front. You can try the Holiday Resort CT.Road. which has a nice pool /Gymn. Mayfair Hotel a little upmarket but very nice. My favourite day out which includes a nice beach and a swim in a hotel pool. Cycle along the coast past the PURI HOTEL [Bengali beach]continue towards the Lighthouse go past Hans Coco Palms[good pool] along beach road towards the Sterling Hotel Resort[its sign posted] and you come to a large hotel called the Garden Beach Resort 'before' the Sterling Resort. They have an excellent pool, will cost you Rs.150. The beach at this point is divided by a river outlet[lovely scenery] you can cross by swimming / wading depends on tide to the otherside of the beach..excellent, or from the hotel someone can take you accross by boat which is used to ferry guest accross. Have Fun HAEMISH

Whether you can swim in the sea at Puri is clearly a matter of opinion.... I do so almost every day, about halfway between the foul river outlet and the fishing village.
The currents generally move the sewage along pretty quickly, and besides I grew up swimming near a raw sewage outlet in England... never did me any harm! ![]() I think the currents are more dangerous than the sewage... still, I'm not advising anyone to follow my example... too scared of lawsuits.... ![]() |
