Some places in Orissa
Apart from Puri & Konark you may consider visiting these three places.
Chilka: This is the largest lake & definitely worth visiting. Stay at Barkul, Orissa Tourism has a tourist hotel here. Go for boating at Sunrise & Sunset. Watch the migratory birds in winter. Talk to the catering staff at the tourist hotel to organise a feast of Crabs & Tiger prawns. Gopalpur: A quiet beach with a backwater lake too. Do boating at the lake & swim in the sea. Tatopani: Take a bus or taxi from Ganjam to reach this place in the hills known for hot springs. It is very green, nice walks. The Tourist hotel has some rooms with turkish baths where hot spring water is piped in. |

As Jyotirmoy says, there are other places apart from Puri and Konarak in Orissa.
Taptapani is interesting if is in your way, otherwise just another sacred place in India. The Hotel is very bad maintained and they have only two rooms and the bath is not really a turkish bath, only a very big (not very clean) bathtub with the hot water coming from the spring. Most of the visitors are women with fertility problems. You should consider the visit to the tribal areas, is really one of the best things to see in India. In my gallery you can see several pics of tribal people. Really woth the visit. |

Thanks Jorge for the info. Actually I had been to Taptopani quite long ago it was very good then. It seems like many Govt. owned places this hotel has degenerated.

Actually, Orissa has a great deal to offer and very few tourists (comparatively). If you are already in either Barkul or Gopalpur in January, I would like to recommend a trip to see Olive Ridley Sea Turtles mating at the Rushikulya mouth. Some 100,000 turtles appear in January.
This site is about 15 kilometers from the town of Ganja (which is also called Ganjam). A small Turtle center is located in a place called Purunaband. There is a sign on the main highway (NH5). |
