Puri
So, what's the hype? Just the availability of ganja? Many international visitors spend months here. Just for the above sole purpose? I see a dirty beach (actually, a filthy beach) and many temples that non-believers cannot enter. And a large city that could be in any other part of India.
The enlightened enlighten me please. |

Hype? What hype? I haven't noticed much publicity about Puri lately. But anyway, it's not a bad place. My last visit was some years ago but I thought it was good for tourists like myself; there were decent hotels ( I liked the Z a lot), restaurants that cater to foreigners, and nearby attractions like Konarak and Bhubaneswar. Sightseeing opportunities and a beach too! Ok, the beach in town is shit but go a few miles outside and it gets much better. Also Puri is one of the four Dhams, theoretically a big deal if you're into Indian spirituality. But apart from all of that maybe the main attraction is indeed that there are a lot of foreign budget travellers to hang out with.
