I think we are about to hit the time of the year when the Olive Turtles come to Orissa to lay eggs.
Last year around 5 lakh turtles arrived. Outlook India says the turtles have been spotted in the bay of Bengal and are are expected to hit land towards the end of January. Two question - 1. Anyone knows if the weekend of the 26th is the time they are expected to arrive? 2. Anyone interested in meeting up there are going to check them out? I am based in Delhi. Would love any help. Am I being a spoilsport if I ask if it isn't better to let nature alone to do its own thing undisturbed?
I don't know... I do know that there is an organisation here in Chennai that, on the turtle hatching days, organises volunteers to go to the beech and make sure that as many youngsters make it into the water as possible.

I really don't know --- and I can understand your desire. It must be quite a sight.
So no criticism, just the suggestion that more information from someone who does know would be welcome here. |

Watching the proceedings (or indeed, volunteering to help them out) is not uncommon in eco-tourism setups elsewhere in the world. And I've been reading about this kicking in in India.
Beyond that, I don't know a thing about it. I guess a bit of googling should help you further. Let us know what you find.

the turtle story.
Am not sure if u looking for the turtle truth of bay of bengal.
Todays news says we have loads of deads on beaches inspite of all preacutions. I have been observing it for long and long time on coastal treks to find the truth. But the government and greenpeace are only going a theorotical way than coming close to a real solution.(its a big money they are eating in the name of turtle story) The real reason for their death is something else... sanjay |
