Hi
I am quit sure that they have a new website and name http://www.orissa-tour.com/index.htm As you can see the phone number and address are the same. If the mails are send by Jahir you can be sure of it. We used their services two years ago and had a great trip, starting in Visakhapatnam and after a day of twelve we ended in Bhubaneshwar. We had partly selected the places that we wanted to visit before we contacted them. During the preparation of the real itinerary they replied quickly on our mails. But with changes in the plans they where sometimes disorderly with dates. But as said it worked out great. For more details of our trip see my journal Mumbai-Delhi. Last February we made another trip with them from Bhubaneshawar to Bhitarkanika and then to Chhattisgarh up to Amarkantak. This also was a good journey although the driving distances where sometimes very long. |

Go Grass Routes!
Hi Kim,
Plenty of companies operating 'tribal tours' in Orissa. Wasn't until I reached Puri that I understood this is actually mainstream business for travel agents in Orissa! I can't recommend Grass Routes Journeys enough (www.grassroutesjourneys.com). My experience with them was truely remarkable and it was evident throughout our tour that they contribute to the villages we visited and stayed in. Not just economically but in one instance they were instrumental in a waterturbine project that delivered power to 3 villages. Also had the pleasure of travelling with one of the co-founders, Pulak who great fun to be on the road with but also heard from the horses mouth about the companies underlying development work. Very impressive stuff! Would prefer to contribute to this kind of tourism anyday. Check out their site. |

Tribal Tours
Hi Kim
As the above post: I too am a cheerleader for Grass Routes Journeys. I have known the co-founder Pulak for 18 years and he has always been very passionate about tourism in genral. He recently married an Australian lady and together they run a very successful travel agency in Puri. Good Travels

First time I went to Orissa was with Discover Tours. They were recommended by I don't remember who but was a very good decission because one of the partner/guide was Sarat Acharya, the man who was with the great writter Norman Lewis fifteen years ago (see the book "A goddess in the Stones")he is the best guide I've known in India, moreover have sent many people to them and as far as I know they were always satisfied with the journey. I must point ou that I'm not enthusiast of guides because I like to travel on my own and preferably alone, but in the case of the tribes in Orissa is probably a must to have a guide and Sarat (not other people in Discover Tours) is the man.
www.orissadiscover.com All the best Jorge In mthe first pages of my gallery here in indiamike (jorge reverter) as well as in my son's gallery (jorge jr) you can have a look at some pictures taken in the tribal area in Orissa. |
