Help Needed For Puri/konark/chilka

Hi All,

I am planning to visit puri, Konark sun Temple and chilka lake in Mid september. As I am going to Orissa first time. Please help me to make tour plan for these places. I have 6 days in hand. I am planning to stay 2 days each in Puri and Chilka and 1 day in Konark sun temple. I stay in Delhi and will travell by train. Is there any direct train from or near Chilka lake.

I made my plan. Please help me if you guys feel any change to be done.

Day1 : take Rajdhani exp for Bhuvneshwer
day2 : reach Bhuvneshwer
Day 3: local Bhuvneshwer sight seen( What to see please suggest)
Day 4: Bhuvneshwer to puri
Day 5: Puri
Day 6: Puri> sun temple> Chilka lake
Day 7: Chilka lake
Day 8: Take train from ?????? for Delhi

Please suggust me how to perform Pooja in Sri Jagannath Temple and where to stay in Puri.

Second, I request to suggest me where to stay in Chilkha and What to do to explore Chilkha lake.

First things first.

Have you made the Rajdhani reservation? Depending on the class of travel, this can be very difficult. Please do this first, both directions, and then we'll help you to decide places to stay, what to see and so on ! Remember, this is close to the Durga Puja vacation period so train travel rush is going to be bad.

There is a train from Balugaon to New Delhi Railway Station Train No 8507 running on Tue, Fri and Sat

Day 1. Arr.Bhubaneswar. ( by air as you have suggested )

Day 2. Bhubaneswar: ( Known as BBSR.) Book a sightseeing tour. Orissa Tourism Dev. Corp. OTDC. tel 2432382 Location behind Panthanivas, Lewis Road.

Day 3. BBSR. Visit (Half day tour ) Nandakan Zoo to see the white tigers.

Day 3. Mid-day dep.BBSR to Puri approx.2hrs. book into your hoteland enjoy the evening stroll on the promenade.

Day. 4. Puri local sightseeing and beach. Book with OTDC a 'Day tour' to Chilka Lake. ( not poss to do this and Konark in the same day as you have suggested, unless you hire a car and set off early am. ) Day trip is OK for Chilka.

Day. 5. Puri early start to Konark Sun temple. Transport Bus / car? back at mid-day.

Day. 6. Puri: best place to spend relaxing /shopping/exploring.

Day 7. Puri

Day 8. Dep. Puri to BBSR for train back to Delhi

Note you may have to return to BBSR depends on your train schedule. Allow 2hrs. A train usually leaves Puri 8.45 am to BBSR.

Hope this has given you some ideas to think about. Bear in mind when planning, the distance between BBSR to Puri is 65km. 2hrs approx. Puri to Konark is 35km. 1 1/2hrs approx. Puri to Chilka (Satapada) 40km. best option for day visit. Puri to Barkul northern shore allow 3 1/2hrs.

Just read the news Konark Sun Temple has been flooded due to the adverse weather conditions in Orissa. 32 people have been killed. Would advise check latest update for your Konark temple visit.

Hi Sumi,
My suggestion for the tour would be as follows.

Day1 : Land at the Bhubaneswar and check in to a hotel.I can suggest some hotels based on your budget.If you reach early in the day the places to visit are Rajarani Temple,Mukteswar temple etc.
day2 :Book a tour from OTDC or hire a cab from the hotel.The must see places are ,Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves and Nandankanan Zoo.
Day 3: Travel to Puri early in the morning .You can take a bus,train or Cab.If travelling by Cab visit the Dhauli giri temple on route.Other wise you can visit Dhauli giri on day 2.Check in to a hotel in Puri.Spend the time visiting Lord Jagannath temple and strolling on the beach.
Day 4: From puri leave from Konark via a cab .You have the option to book a package tour also to cover Chilika and Konark,but travelling by cab is convenient.Visit Konark and Chandrabhaga Beach.Return to puri by night.No need of spending the night at Konark.The road distance from Puri to Konark is 35 Kms.
Day 5:Travel to Satapada from Puri.Check in to panthanivas there.For details just google OTDC or Panthanivas.It is advised to book the hotel well in advance.
Day 6:Visit Chilika lake and surrounding areas.Night stay at Satapada.
Day 7: From Satapada take a Cab to Bhubaneswar and travel back to Delhi by Train or Flight.
Some Point to Note-

1- It is advised to book panthanivas well in advance.
2-If you hire a Cab from Bhubaneswar well in advance it would be very easy to commute places.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions. My dates are fixed now. Dates are from 26th sept to 2nd oct. I made my itnerary according to your suggestions. Please confirm my tour plan and give suggestion if I am wrong somewhere as I am going to Orissa first time with my family.

26th sept: jet light flight at 7.20 Am will reach BBs at 9.30AM
26th sept: Bhubneshwer local sight seen and visit temples
27th sept: take taxi and visit udayagiri/khandagiri cave & approach to konark(N/S at konark
28th sept: approach to puri in the afternoon
29th sept: Puri
30th sept: puri to satpada
1st Oct : satpada to Barkul by boat N/S at Barkul
2nd Oct : take train no 2704 at 9 AM will reach BBS at 10.45 Am and take flight at 14.40 Pm for Delhi
3rd Oct : Delhi to Bangalore
5th oct; join my office at bangalore, Hosur road

I need some help very urgent.

first give me accomodation options in Bhubaneshwer, Puri, Konark , Satpada and barkul alongwith their telephone numbers. I need reasonable accomodation. please put some light at Panthinivas in all places.

Second What will be the cost of Taxi from BBS to Konark and from Puri to satpada.

third, can i take bus from Konark to Puri or i have to take taxi . what will taxi cost to me from Konark to Puri.

Please suggest me persons alongwith their telephone numbers in BBS, Puri, Konark and Barkul who run taxi so that I will book them in advance over phone from delhi.

I want to reach every destination Max by 5 PM, as my kids age are 10th and 12 and explore evening of that place. So suggest me will I reach in time at Konark from BBS after visiting caves and How much time is sufficient to visit caves so that I will make plan.

early reply will be appreciated as i want to book my plan in advance.

We visited this region some two years ago. We stayed in Panthanivas hotels in Barkul, Satpada and Puri. All three of them were good places to stay.
Since we made this part of our journey with a travel agent I don't know anything about prices but this is the OTDC website http://www.panthanivas.com/

Adding to my post my querry is that "is it possible on 30th sept can I take boat from Satpada to visit Rajhans island and Khiji island. after that same boat will leave me at Barkul where I will have N/Stay. I will take train to BBS on 1st oct to save one day. Can I take my luggege along with me at boat. Is it feasible because I will start from puri at 9 Am for satpada. How can I get boat from satpada for barkul.

Dear Sushmitha, from bbsr to puri and konark there are frequent bus services.in every 5-10 minutes. you canalso hire taxi it may cost you arround rs 1000 + extra if you take more time than their stipulated cota. well its better to take bus.puri is only 60 kms from bbsr abd konark is 80 kms from puri. you will get a lot of busses. and its only one hour-two hour journey depends on the bus. if you take a express bus which have limited stops it will be better.
for staying panthanivas is good. its govts of orissa undertaking. and if you want to know other hotels ,i can tell you if you let me know your budget.

Think around 1.5 - 2 hours but not shure.If remember right friends that went to airport from Puri allowed on about that time. Hope it helps
