Gurubai Tourist Center
If you are in the Gopalpur/Berhampur area, a new tourist center opened last week in the village of Gurubai for those interested in exploring Chilika lagoon. The center is a community-based eco-tourism initiative offering dolphin and bird watching tours. It also offers tours to the beautiful Kalijai temple and the newly opened sea mouth. More information is available from local hotels in Gopalpur and Berhampur.
Before this tourism initiative, boat tours of Chilika were only possible from the Puri area (North) or the Barkul/Balugaon side (East). Please note that I am in no way financially involved in this initiative. I was invited to the grand opening because of my research on the local fishing communities. |
