Chikungunya in Orissa

"Nearly 100 people have been taken ill with a new kind of viral fever in Orissa's Barkul village, suspected to be chikungunya."

To See the NDTV article.

To read about Chikungunya in the wiki.

Barkul is a small fishing village of "low-caste" Khandaras on Chilika lagoon. It is just south of Balugaon and the location of the OTDC (Orissa Tourism Development Corporatio) Hotel. It is about 100 kilometers south of Bhubaneswar. I actually spent a month there in 2002 - researching the impacts of prawn aquaculture.
