Bhubaneswar to Puri

Does anyone know how much a taxi from Bubaneswar airport to Puri costs?
Is there a pre pay taxi counter at the airport?
What are the public transport options?

Thanks

My experience is almost 4 years old, but it gives an idea. The Airport is very small, and I would not expect to find a prepaid taxi stand there, and probably not many taxis either. With a distance of roughly 65-70kms, a trip to Puri would be not more than 600-700 Rupees. (I calculate 70 times 6 Rupees plus 100 for car plus 100 for the driver.)

I would not take the option of a train, because major trains come from long distance. I am not sure whether the Airport is closer to Khurda Road or to Bhuban. town. Khurda Road is the station to exit a train (say the Coromandal Express Howrah-Chennai) when going to Puri. Of course there are buses, too, but the hassle to get there would not be an option for me.

I would take a car for sure. There are nicely decorated houses on the road approaching Puri. If you are interested in taking photos, I would stop the car and make some pictures. Those painted decorations are unique for all of India.

Bhubaneswar airport is in the city itself so would be much nearer BBSR station than Khurda Road.

It's no problem getting a train from BBSR or Khurda Rd to Puri, provided there is one... there are long gaps in the schedule and of course the long distance trains are often very late. But if you do arrive conveniently for an express, getting a seat is never a problem as lots of people will have got off at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

However if arriving at the airport I would definitely take the easy option of a taxi.

Thanks for the tips atala and blackbird
I will take a taxi and hopefully find someone to share the costs and journey with. At least I have a rough idea of costs.
Some further online research suggests that there is a prepaid taxi service at the airport.

Are taxis allowed along CT road in Puri? Last time I was there I got a cycle rickshaw from the station to CT road, but I remember CT road as being very quiet. Is traffic allowed along there or will I have to transfer to a cycle rickshaw?

I don’t understand what is CT road (Or is it GT?).
Now taxi or any other vehicle is not allowed upto the temple. They are to be parked at a distance of 1 KM from temple. If required hand pull rickshaws can be used for this short distance. Some roads like beach to temple and some other roads may be closed for vehicles in evening hours but other than temple area there should not be any problem for taxi.

Now Puri will be crowed because of holly month in local calendar.

Chakratirtha Road (C.T. Road) is where most western tourists stay, its on the beach close to the fishing village.
Taxi, rickshaw it doesn't matter much, I just like to be aware of the situation.
smo, thanks for your advice. I will be arriving in Puri at the end of November so will Holly month be over by this time?

Cool Bhubaneswar to Puri

From the airport to Puri by taxi expect to pay Rs.600 approx. Yes, taxies can easily go down C.T. road. and to any hotel of your choice. You will be 'amazed' the changes you will now find in Puri. I was informed yesterday, weather at the moment is perfect. Let me know if you requrie any more info.

Bon Voyage

During my school days I was near CT road for three years.
The month will be over on 24th , but that is for temple area only. Other places won't be that much crowed.

Sorry for my English .. That is holy month. A sacred month ( Kartik month)where many people prefer to stay at Puri.

A month ago there was no pre-paid taxi facility at the Bhubaneswar Airport. I found one to the center of the city for Rs 500 (US$ 13).

Puri (or Konark) is a good distance away. From my hotel in Bhubaneswar a round-trip taxi trip (to both Puri and Konark) was offered for Rs 2,500.

If one wish, there is also BBSR-Puri Passenger (train). Can anyone give the timings? I think there is one about 1:30-2 p.m. that starts from BBSR.

There are several trains during the day between Bhubaneswar and Puri. We got off the train from Chennai early in the morning, went to the ticket office and got tickets to Puri. It was lovely. We watched the sunrise on the way. I would pay the ten times more / hundred times more that a taxi costs to go by train instead.

It has nothing to do with mainline trains. The mainline between Chennai and Kolkata passes through Bhubaneswar, and Puri is at thhe end of a sideline.

If coming from Chennai, there is no need to come down to Bhubhabneshwar. Just get down at Khurda Road station. It is from here the line bifurcates into the left to Puri and the main line goes to Chennai. Getting down at BBSR, you will be again coming back on the same way upto Khurda Road junction.

There are both Express and Passenger trains to Puri. As I said before, there are long gaps in the service. There are a few more trains from Khurda Road to Puri than from Bhubaneswar to Puri.

For the following list, I used www.erail.in for the Express Trains, and www.trainenquiry.com for the Passenger Trains -- please check all timings before you travel, especially the Passenger trains as I've occasionally found incorrect timings on trainenquiry.com. Any corrections will be most welcome.

02:50
03:50
