Winter (Oct-Feb) events, festivals, happenings in India

I am writing an article about cool, unusual, off-the-beaten path events, festivals, happenings in India in the winter (Oct. - Feb.). It doesn't have to be an organized or official event -- it could be just: the beaches are empty but the weather's still warm; there's lots of music and dance; it's a great time to be there because (fill int he blank).

So please let me know if you have any ideas or have had any great experiences.

Thanks!!
