where to find this solitude?

I'm heading to delhi in a few day days after that i don't know where to go. I have to make some study for school and i make some meditation. Where's is this idyllic place that i have in my mind, where you wake up from the birds and not from the dogs, where you can make small treks through the forest, where you can see waterfalls and lots of flowers and animals? I'm planning to stay at this place, when i find it, from mid-march till the end of april. I have doing some searching in this forum and i come to a list from the following places: Binsar, Pachmari, Kanhatal, Badseri, Pokhri, Chamba, Dalhousie, Lidder, Kasauli, Palampur, Kullu. So now i don't know which place to choose. My budget is around 750 Rs a day. Could anyone share their experiences with one of these places with me, or other idyllic places?

Forget Kullu.

Unless you are specifically going for the Himalayas, Pachmarhi in MP has a lot going for it. I loved it there, and there are some great walks, hills, and waterfalls, though the forests are deciduous, not coniferous.

Rewalsar, H.P. aka TsoPema-Lotus Lake. Sacred place to Buddhists, Hindus and Sikhs. Very peaceful, lots of temples and cheap rooms(I recommend Hotel Lotus Lake). Don't miss the flocks of lovely green parrots(Alexandrines, plumheads and ringnecks) roosting on the cliff overlooking the Shiva mandir in the evenings. I could spend months here - hope to go back to the Drikung gompa there next year.

go to dharamshala / mcleodganj, walk the bazaar, but remember to spend the night in Dharamkot which is 2-3km further up from mcleodganj. Dharamkot is where the Vipassana meditation retreat is also located and staying in one of the guest-houses or village homes is an antidote to city-stress..

Out the back of Palampur is really interesting and I would be keen myself to explore up into the gorge. I would be surprised if there were not a few magic spots up in that area.

That's Eumundi Dave and how are you going. Better a cottage at Eumundi than Pomona me thinks, my old place in Little Springs, Forest Acres may be available.

Well, this involves leaving India (gasp), but Sri Lanka is home to one of the best, quietest, most peaceful meditation retreats -Nilambe, just outside Kandy. Silence is semi-enforced, gently, most of the day, and it's clean and green and cool. ANd cheap!

Yep, and I'm proud to be a heretic! if it means committing Heresy (Hera Sees lots of things in the Greek tradition).

Seriously Sanjay, you should put winky faces when you kid like that.

Sorry, it was really off topic...the OP (from 2006) was not going in that direction anyway.
