For me is Elephanta Island
(I've dreamt of it before I was there)I am not superstitious or things like that but.....after that I started to believe that India is part of my life.

Jhunjhunu, I just felt so very welcome there, a ceremony at the Rani Sati temple was one of the most moving experiences of my life.

My response can be just one: I AM IN SOUTHERN INDIA!!!!
Maybe in some Tamil Nadu temple, or in Kerala, or wandering around Hampi ruins... surely for me India means its southern part, and my first trip to India (I'm not yet been there!) will be in that area. A couple of weeks ago I have attended a week of slide projections dedicated to several trips to India, and I have been really disappointed of the north India images and the description of the trips: something like a big museum, without any evidence of REAL life, rather very beautiful views of palaces and magnificient buidlings, but without any particular feeling... but everything changed with the presentation of south India, with its living temples and markets, and I have been definitively convinced that MY India is in the south! Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the northern slides were taken not so well showing not the real face of this part of the country, but now my India dreams are directed toward south, and my travel plans too! Still eight months to go; though... ![]() |

Gianni, I have only been once and only north (next trip will probably be south) and of course the palaces, forts and temples are the showcases and very wonderful. But my main reason for going to India was to meet people and try to get some sort of feel for life there. Very hard in 16 days but if you open our hearts and DONT behave as if in a museum then we get the rewards we hope for. As an aside what I did find was that on my journey west from Delhi to Jaisalmer via Jhunjhunu, Mandawa, Bikaner the people were most happy to see and talk to us. Once I had turned the corner heading back east it didn't seem quite as friendly, but again it was probably me sending out the wrong signals.

I dreamed of Varanasi before I went, and had a lot of feelings of deja vu in the ancient city. Since I've been back, I've dreamed of most of the places I went, some of Calcutta, some of Delhi, some of Bodhgaya.
Actually, for a week or so after I came back, I had really disorienting dreams, then woke up thinking, "Where am I?" and had a very hard time processing that I was in my house in America. |

I thought I was the only one who gets those. South India for me - Tamil Nadu... Ooty... Mmm. I had a dream recently that I was in a beautiful unknown Indian city without any money or knowledge of the local language, on a mission to get somewhere, Amazing Race-style. Love those dreams!

Sometimes I dream I am tralking with people in Tamil.
Of course it must be gibberish, but in the dream it is Tamil! Oh well... Maybe one day. "The difference between dreams and reality is hard work" Hmmm... ![]()

I must agree with seventies'hippy as when I dream about india it's always about the places i know more. And well, that's Pushkar!
I've been going to Pushkar every time i've gone to india. When i plan a travel to India i must save the last days in pushkar as i have too many friends there and i love the feelings i have while i'm there. It's like a second hometown… except for the language ![]() |
