a hill station is a town built in the cool hills as a place to stay when the heat became too much on the plains.
the more famous hill stations in india were built by the british to escape from the big cities, they include matheran (bombay), shimla (delhi), darjeeling (calcutta) and ooty (madras). the 4 mentioned all have 'toytrains' to take you there and the train journeys to darjeeling and ooty are probibly 2 of the best (scenic) train journeys in the world. the hill stations are very relaxing places to stay and a good (cool) escape when you have had enough of the heat and hassle of the big cities. for more info check out the following site. http://hill-resorts.indianvisit.com/ |
