Wall Tent and the Forest

Hi everyone,

Is it posible to land in India, travel to Nepal, purchase a wall tent, and set it up in the forest? Set up a base camp there for about six months, and still be within half a days walking distance to a town for supplies.

I'm working in S.E. Asia right now, and I've had it. Need some time alone..

I've read one post about a guy that wanted to go into isolation for 15 - 20 days. That's about it for me, except I need about five or six months, and I'd like to be practical about it. Fishing is a great resource, but throwing hard sticks at the heads of critters for dinners, as my only resource, is not my idea of relaxing!

Thanks in advance.

I think people do it, but I do not have the details. I hope someone will stumble upon who knows more about the stuff you ask.

There should be no problem in setting up a tent anywhere in India in safe areas (forests in Central India are infested by maoists). At the most it would require some tip to the forest officials. Which area you want to go to? Don't know the latest about Nepal.

tents are available at delhi and most big towns. but setting up tent in forest is not allowed as you would light fire and that can get you in trouble. Instead you come to india and stay near forest. there are forest rest houses in himchal pradesh. they are in 30 mins distance from town and have basic facilities. if you want i can find them and put in touch with you...
