Mod note: would the recent posters please stop this cow brawl! You both have very interesting information to provide, but your one on one digression must stop now. Stop personalizing each other's opinions. Let others into the discussion. Thanks

Thumbs up

This has been an udderly fascinating cow fight..........I mean debate.

Some people shouldn't run marathons but they do - donkeys shouldn't pull tongas but they do - horses probably shouldn't show jump or race but they do. Humans put animals through all sorts of paces, push the limit mostly for their own pleasure, income or exposure ..... right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

Dzibead, I did not mean to offend you or come across as “snotty”. I have simply been expressing my professional opinion based on years of personal experience. Lets moove on.

After reading all these posts I completely understand why Bruno has abandoned the thread!

What? You don't think we should keep milking this?

Anyway, no problem.

Indian cattle

I'm going to digress now to an interesting piece if information. Indian cattle genes specifically the Ongole from Nellore district in Tamilnadu dominate the world cattle population. They are prized for their robustness and their adaptation to climatic conditions - it is a species that has been developed since the time of mohenjo-daro Harrappa civilization. Bulk of cattle in South America and Africa have Indian genes and so do a vast majority in U.S.

google for "ongole nellore cattle" for more ...

Hope you enjoy learning about this.

Cheers

Yes, they were introduced into the U.S., by way of cross-breeding, because they are so well adapted to hot climates, and large area of the U.S. have pretty hot (some areas very hot) summers, with both arid and semi-tropical conditions, depending on the specific location in the U.S. The American breed known as "Brahman" or "Brahma" cattle were developed by this cross-breeding.

Brahman bulls are one of the commonest breeds used in the rodeo sport of bull-riding. Here's a video clip: http://footage.shutterstock.com/clip...ood-audio.html

Here's a link to a Google book on the subject, which includes info on the bulls.

Not an activity for the faint of heart.
