Traditional sports and games of india.

India has a vast culture and it is diverse. we all agreee to that.Becuse of this there will be a a vriety of fascinating games in different parts. One of them which i know happens in kerala.

During the festival of Onam there is a tradtinal sport which is known as "Onna thallu" (onam fight). No it is not exactly a variant of kallaripayattu which is the more renowned form of martial art from kerala but it is a fun sport. It is very popular in the district of Trissur and southwards till kollam I guess. Is there any other sports which are linked to festivals and seasons

Of cource Boat race defintly is a tradition. The nehru trophy boat race to remmember the visit of Jawahar lal Nehru the first prime minister of India and the boat ride that he took. Aranmulla vallamkalli or boat race in Aranmulla is also part of custom with the aranmulla temple.

Jallikattu is normally held during the festival of Pongal. In Tamilnadu it is a 4 day festival and Jallikatu is held during Matu Pongal. (Matu in Tamil means bull)
The bulls run along the street and men try to tame the bull by controlling their horns. If you watch any Tamil news during Pongal Jallikattu clippings will always be shown.
In olden days women used this as an occassion to choose their grooms that is what my relatives say. But nowadays this just treated as a sport.

According to Wikipedia this happens in Uttar Pradesh
Holi played at Barsana is unique in the sense that here women chase men away with sticks. Males also sing provocative songs in a bid to invite the attention of women. Women then go on the offensive and use long staves called lathis to beat men folk who protect themselves with shields.

one, its sad to see that people are having to refer to wikipedia to find out about barsana ki holi.

second, that is not a game it is a tradition, as much as 'playing' holi with colors, and bursting firecrackers in diwali.
