Promise not to tell anyone else but the beaches in the quote above are good (they are the right ones) Bit of a walk to get to but well worth it

very nice beach walk from varkara in kerala, going north for about 7 ks. ACCOMMODATION scattered sparsely in amongst fields and vegetation for some distance. a scenic walking track runs from the busy tourist area on top of the cliffs along the coast. nice and quiet and lots of vacancies as most people stay at varkala itself, which has some great food places, markets etc similar to goa but on a minute scale.
staye around kerala for 2 months and it was hassle free and no big drama with taxi fare bartering. great relief after sri lanka!!! highly recommend kerala and the pleasant people there.i'll definitely be going back!!

Thanks Kalbarri. That sounds interesting.
An acquaintance sent me the attached photo a while back.
Does anyone know where it is? Perhaps there are clues in the picture. The style of the boats maybe?

boat photo

shikari,i think you will find that there are many places with boats that are similar. i want to do a trip from madras, soth to the tip, then up to my favourite spots in kerala, slowly. take about 3 months for the whole journey. i,d love to do it even slower but i have a time and finance limit, unfortunately.
cheers!!

confirmed.

not just drunk, but utterly wankered. i found it very amusing watching a group of totally rat-arsed gujaratis stumble into the restaurant i was in. it was very reminiscent of the generic group of english twats in a curry house. they were obnoxiously loud and couldn't decide how much to order and so just kept ordering more. more bread. more vegetable dishes. more drinks. more jibes at the waiter. it's not an uncommon happening at weekends.

the difference being that the pissed indians don't want to fight everything that moves. they tend to just laugh at each other's inability to walk/talk/stand/keep eyes open.

also, the beaches are relatively quiet and relaxed, but keep in mind that it is primarily an indian resort, so any girls stripping off to sun themselves on a nicely discovered empty beach, may soon find an audience appearing from nowhere and creeping closer.

that lake in the photo is much bigger but that was the flash i got when i first looked at it. living by the lake at arambol was a great time for me (and the snakes)
