spring time in India over christmas

Hi....and help.

I have just booked a flight for myself over Christmas/New Year to Delhi (very spontaneous). I looked into the option to go for an easy hike in the north east (which would be absolutely the perfect spot) until I found out it is gonna be too cold with snow etc.

Does anybody have some advice where I could go, a nice place in the hills in plenty of nature? I would really like to have spring like temperatures and just chill out somewhere, nice walks and yoga.

Your advice is very much appreciated.

Not sure whether you are interested in South India. If so , then

Coorg [ Karnataka] Or Wayanad [ Kerala] or Munnar [ Kerala] are the best places which has all that you are looking for !

This thread is double with hiking over Christmas/ New Year's .

As Dilli is prone to say: It is a botheration (it's also simply not allowed by Forum Rules, for all the obvious reasons. You're giving people more and double work than you should.)

What do you mean by double work? Are people working for the forum?
I thought it might be handy to post twice cos it is touching two topics and not everybody might read the hiking section which is reading off the beaten track. Anyway sorry I am new to the forum, didn't mean to hassle anybody.

No, people donot work for this forum.... ie they donot get paid for the amount of time and effort they spend in giving thoughtful and usually correct answers to questions posted.

People visit the forums that they are specially interested in. If you post two similar threads then there is a lot of confusion about which one to answer.

Anyway, answering your question.... anyplace in north India will be very cold during end december.

try the hills in kerala.

Sari, coming from Dublin, you may not find North India that cold, even the lower altitudes in the Himalaya, which otherwise would suit your requirements well.

All depends on your budget. If you can fly or stay in reasonably expensive/mid buget places with heating (not all that many hotels in the hills will have adequate heating) then your options increase.

Yoga, hmm.

Rishikesh for yoga and a little beyond in the hills for nature is one possibility.

Actually I am from switzerland and used to cold winters (-5 Celcius), Dublin is better in that aspect. I just find it sad to fly 10 hours and still freeze my a**e off ;-)

I would like to go hiking for a couple days but no in the snow. It should stay green and not under 10 Celsius.
Yoga isn't that important if the rest is ok.
Do you think North INdia would still be the place? What about New Year's do they have hikes? I would prefer to arrange it right there. Will the place be crowded?

Not under 10C knocks off the North/himalaya

Like nayan said, look south. Munnar? (maybe no yoga there, I am not sure since haven't been for awhile, but plenty in Kerala)

Ooty or Coorg are other options.

New years will not be a big issue, I think. Not too crowded in the North in December, the southern places may well be- after mid December till roughly mid Jan, when schools close. Crowds of tourists tend to be concentrated in the bigger towns in the North or South (Ooty, Madikeri in the south)

For specifics, you'll be better off having people fill it in like is already happening now of course. However, that thread and its links can give you a good idea of what to expect.
