This is the official copycat version of the ‘Run!!!The Ear Cleaners are coming!!!!’ thread
![]() Basically a ‘tip-off’ or grapevine thread for special locations. Not exactly the off beaten or remotest locations. But places that are in the tourist category list, not yet full-blown cases of tourist attack. Also they are getting popular slowly….. The idea is to list places which are having tourism value but still not all that touristy yet. A kind of ‘early warning’ for those who would like to enjoy the relative peacefulness of an attractive place. For example Varkala (10 years back). It was (still is) a nice beach, but once it became popular of late, the mob arrived in heaps. The rest is history. Currently I can think of locations like Vythiti in Wayanad. Currently the location is slowly getting popular (with resorts and all popping up…). But yet become all that touristy and crowded…

Coorg ( all the places in Coorg ) are nice and quite. Now, it has become very touristy. I had been to Kushalnagar, and was surprised to see the rush...too many tourists there.
May be, one must avoid weekends to visit the temple. |

One for across the boarder!
I know anyone travelling to Sri Lanka will often spend a night or two in Negombo (nearest to airport) but many don't like it for having too many tourists and yet not really being 'glammed up' enough. If you are ever there and want to know how to fill a tourist free day try 'The rock temple LIKE Dambulla - near negombo.' Any barman or driver can give you the name, it's only about 25 minutes away and deserted. It looks like this: View from on top Inside the cave temple Another inside It seems apart from drivers hardly a soul knows about it - hence I never did discover it's name!! One problem being that foreigners don't believe there really is a cave temple like dambulla, apparently they often think it's a con - but it isn't, it's real! There's no hawkers or guides just a caretaker who lets you in.

thanks Dayglowhamster-this temple looks in far better condition than Dambulla. We'll be sure to check it out when we return to Sri Lanka in Dec 05.
What a magic place Sri Lanka is! All the best. ![]() |
