Road to Tsokar: need help

can anybody plz guide me how to reach tso-kar from the manali-leh road on the way to leh?

i shall be traveling on bike. how long is this detour? do i need inner line permit to take this detour ??

Dr. Barai, I have done this circuit four times, and there are two ways to reach there.

1. Before Tanglang La ascend (around 23 kms before) there is a road going to right direction which will lead you to Tso Kar. It is around 8 to 10 kms from there. No inner-line permit is required in this route.
2. But if you are coming from Leh to Manali via Tso Moriri & Changthang, then there will be two to three check posts where you need to present Inner Line Permit.

Keep in mind, if you adhere to the first option then do not cross beyond the Tso Kar and return back on the Manali – Leh Highway, if you proceed further towards Tso Moriri or Chumathang then again you need to show the inner line permit. For more information you can mail me vinod@team456.com

Thanks vinod. it was very useful. i shall stick to the first option. do u have any idea about availabiity of petrol after tandi on leh- manali road?

After Tandi there is no such petrol pump available till Leh. So you have to make extra provision for fuel. May be you can find fuel at Bharatpur/Sarchu/Pang's tents but it will cost you around Rs. 100/- per ltr.

One more thing wants to mention that be alert for the diversion of Tso kar, many people while enjoying driving on the Morey plains forget to take the diversion. FYI there is no such board or sign which indicate about the Tso Kar. Only single cemented road turns towards Tso kar where Morey Plains finishes.
