Places in Gujarat off the trail

Hi I am thinking about possibly traveling to Gujarat for a week at the end of November and into December. I want to get as much of a backpacker experience as I can getting to some unique places that may be off the typical high class tourist path. Any nice gathering spots for backpackers would be highly appreciated too, or places where one could have an Adavasi (tribal) experience. Thanks and I hope to hear back from anyone.

If you are a history/ anthropology buff, I would suggest Lothal (Mound of the dead) - 4000 year old remains of an Indus port town with museum. There is a village nearby where you can stay with the postmasters family - no lodging available otherwise - potting village.

Lothal, Palithana are good alternative sites. The Junagadh area does provide some off-beaten-track sites (and facilities to match!)

I agree with Ronak. The Dangs is an adivasi tribal district, easily accessible from Mumbai by road via Nashik Dindori and Vani - from NH3, or via Vapi Dharamtar and Waghai - from NH8. Saputara has a small lake, ropeway etc. You can also visit the tall bamboo and teak forests beyond Ahwa. We stayed at the Forest Rest House on the banks of the Purna River in Mahal in 2004, it was lovely. You have to get permission from the DCF at Ahwa, he will give it easily as not many people go there. You can also visit the small Vansda sanctuary near Waghai.
