There are fishers all over India. I have spent time with the ones in the south, in Rameswaram, who work from trawlers. There are also plenty of more traditional fishers, using "country boats," rough lashed wood outfitted with a motor. They cast nets.
Bombay has a huge commercial and traditional fishing industry. Really, there are fishing communities all over India, and I'm sure they would welcome you and your work. |

Thank you very much for your quick reply. It will be my first time in India, could you tell me , generally speaking, how people react when you snap a picture? I traveled in various contries and i saw that people react different from country to country. In Kenya, Africa, 99 percents of people seeing me with a camere asked my money -- even if i havent took any pictures. They where friendly, but it was impossible the snap a daily life picture because everytime they was asking for money.
I Afghanistan i had a great surprise and i wandered the streets and took rolls of films without any kind of problem . The people barely looked at me ( that was a few years ago, i dont know what;s happening today there. Could you tell me in general lines how are the indians acting when they see a photographer. I mean comon people, not police man or other authorities. Im intending to photograph the daily life rather than touristical sites. If you could generalize o few line for me , please, i'll be gratefull Many thanks |

Indians are very happy to have you take their pictures, and they don't generally expect any money for it. Kids will clamor to be in front of your lens, and then want to see their faces on the digital screen. If you are doing something more photojournalistic, folks will be happy to cooperate, since you are clearly showing an interest in them and their work. India is really an easy place to photograph--you shouldn't have any trouble at all.
