 | Need small town suggestions in North India I just love small towns in India like the following: Orcha, Chitrakoot, Bundhi, Puri.... All of these towns are small enough to walk around in, have great sights, charm, great architecture and great atmosphere. They are also off the beaten track. Can anyone add to the list? |

| Towns in Lower H.P. Try Kasuali in Himachal Pradesh. A couple of hrs from Chandigarh, and one of the closest hill stations to Delhi. Off the beaten track is Arki, about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs from Kasauli, a small town with one heritage-palace hotel. The main attraction are some amazing murals located in the palace complex. Not listed in most guidebooks, but definitely a cool side-trip and completely off of the beaten path.

| small towns in the Northeast Hi, Depending on where and which state you are going to. Here are some suggestions. In Nagaland - Mokokchung (Longkhum, Ungma), Kohima,Mon. In Arunachal Pradesh - West - Dirang, (Thungri, chander, lhao) Central - daporijo,ziro(talley valley)along, Michuka East- Miao, In Meghalaya - Khasi hills - Nongkrem,Mawphlang,Nongstion,R anikor,Smit Jaintia Hills- Sutnga,Cheruphi,rymbai Garo Hills - Nokrek, Siju to name a few. But in all these places you will need a guide.Some excellent country. |

| Even heavily touristed places like Naini Tal quickly regain that elusive magic OUT OF SEASON. Avoid April/May, Diwali, and Xmas and it's lovely if a bit cold in Jan/Feb. In the same region Almora, Kausani,Pithorgarh., almost any hill station (out of season).... take a wooly hat. Not as chilly. Mt Abu. Stick a pin in a map of Gujurat and if it's anywhere west of Amadabad-go!! esp recommended- Palitana, Dwaraka, anywhere around Bhuj. |

| I recommend to visit small towns of big cities in Uttranchal, you will feel the beauty of nature but devoid of good hotel comforts sometimes even basic ones. But I bet you once you visit the lesser known destinations of this zone, you wll be amazed. |

| If you are near Mcleodganj in Himachal Pradesh, you must visit DADDI - which lies at the eastern base of Mcleodganj and is one of the cutest small villages I have ever seen! |

| Mahilpur Try this small town in Punjab, near the Himalayan foot hills. It has a British Grammer School. | Kodiya- Uttaranchal If you really want to spend a quiet holiday, then try Kodiya, its a teeny little forest guest house run by this wonderful American lady who's been living in India for about 25 years and also runs an orphanage in Rishikesh (serve lovely home grown vegetarian continental and indian fare), the house is surrounded by mountains (amazing day treks from here). The place open through out the year except the summer months Getting there: 1.5 hours beyond Rishikesh. Immediately after rishikesh take the turn towards Ananda in the Himalayas, cross the hotel and stay on the Dhanaulti Mussorie highway. Arrive at a teenie village called 'Thangdar' and turn right, off the road and down the mountain about 3.5 kms (narrow road) down hill. I had a wonderful time, hope you do  |
