Mountain hideaway?
Hey all
Love IndiaMike Forums. I'm a writer living in Hyderabad. Just finished a project and looking for a town in the Himalayas where I can go write for a month. Thinking somewhere in Himachal Pradesh as I long for some Momos and noodle soup. Dont want to deal with either loads of travellers or 20 feet of snow. Just want a quiet pretty place to write (and eat momos!) Any thoughts? |

hideout in Himanchal
Hello Skies,,,are you an Indian? Kangra is great tourist rush depends on when you go right now tourists are about to arrive. You might be better off in Uttaranchal very basic living their if you find the right place.
Thanks, Grizzly |

Hi SkiesAreBlue77,
You may consider Kurseong, north bengal that will serve both of ur purposes. |

Rivalsar (also spelt Rewalsar). Off the beaten track, not too many tourists - mostly foreigners looking for the Buddhist experience. Everything packed together around the lake, but quiet enough. I liked it - laid-back atmosphere. The momos at the Topchen restaurant (first floor, close to HPTDC hotel) are supposed to be the best! goodfriend's suggestion of Palampur is also good, Sherab Ling is nearby. |

Hello
I agree with Dilliwala on Rewalsar. Would like to share another place, close to Shimla called Chindi, approximately 70 kms away. I had been to this place and so have many of my friends. HPTDC has a good hotel and the views are good too. One will find apple orchards all around and gentle hills. The ashram opposite this HPTDC hotel would be the ideal for such month long trips. They had guest rooms for hire. There is a good PWD rest house too within walking distance with good views. The HPTDC hotel is Hotel Mamaleshwar. |

Rekong Peo/Chini
Chini is perched on a ridge over Rekong Peo. Set amongst apple orchards. It is the last town before heading to Spiti/Lahaul route and for those who want to go to Sanla Valley. It's very small...it is a jumping off point for people going to Spiti. But it is not a "hang out" town for people (like Manali, Dharamsala). So you will see tourists, but not the hordes you want to avoid. Fabulous views of Kinnaur Kailaish, seems like they are touchable they are so close. Rewalsar is nice, but Chini/Rekong Peo is better if you want to be shocked and stunned by mountain vistas.
By the way....Rekong Peo is 8 hours north of Shimla by bus. |
