Magic and india?

does anyone know where there may be street performers still doing magic acts in India. Would love to see some of these - did anyone catch one on their travels.

There is one Mr. P.C.Sarcar of India is a well known and celebrated magicians of India. He organises special magic shows not only in India but outside India also. You had better search for him, you might get him on the net easily.

Penn & Teller did a show on the street magicians of India. I think you can still pick up the DVD on it too - check their website. In it they visited an area of Delhi where many of the magicians live and showed a street magician's gig outside the red fort which got busted by the cops as they were filming ... probably just looking for some baksheesh. Then they went to West Bengal ..... and also one magician 'attempted' the great Indian rope trick behind the Taj Mahal.

Street magicians are hardly seen anymore.

Well, except sometimes at big fairs or exhibitions, but they seem to be mainly associated with selling magic trick equipment and gimmicks.

PC Sarkar Sr went to the big magician in the sky a long time ago.
