Is goa the only paradise!!!
Hi peps!!
I went to Goa 2 years ago for 6 week and had an awesome trip. But by now people are just telling me that Goa is not anymore like it was before. Did someone find a place that could be like Goa, anywhere in the world? Somewhere where you can party(drugs), meet people, relax and everything for cheap prices. I heard about places like Koh Phagan in Thailand, but i heard wicked story about drug shit there, so i'm not sure. help me pls!!! danin |

See the current thread about best beaches in India, although I wouldn't encourage parties on the Andamans, better to keep them the way they are now......

I have been to both Goa and Koh Phangan. Koh Phangan's beaches knock out the best of Goa's, so when I got to Goa, I got a bit of a "you mean that's it??" feeling.. granted, the entire experience of Goa is very different, but Thai culture (and food) is fabulous too. The 'scary drug shit' will leave you alone if you don't go looking for it.
It depends, I suppose, on what you think paradise should have. There are plenty of secluded Thai and Filipino islands which are drop dead gorgeous (and very empty), as well as plenty of Thai and Filipino islands which are drop dead gorgeous, and very touristy. Koh Chang is a good one too, and Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao, Koh Lipe or Koh Lanta. Sitting by a beach, drinking iced Thai coffee and eating HOT HOT HOT papaya salad is my idea of paradise.. so.. |

Thanks Acid dust but I have already arranged accommodation at Varca-down South. Stayed in the North a few years ago at Chapora/Vagator and loved it. Funnily enough we took a scooter trip into Baga and couldn't get out of there fast enough-that was 8 years ago and I'd imagine it is even more built up by now. However I can't wait to revisit Vagator-I have some sweet memories of Spaghetti Beach/Disco valley and of course the Bamboo Forest-anyone who's been there will know what I'm talking about!!!
This time its a family holiday, me my hubby and 5 year old son. We will be popping into 'India' for a few days out of Goad though- I just HAVE to go back to Hampi and let my lad experience a train ride!! He will LOOOOOVE it!! |

Thanks to all!! When I went there 2 years ago, i stayed à Aswen beach, i very loved arambol and chapora. I would probably be looking for accomodations there, i have made couple of friends. Never heard of Varca or Vasco, i look for it there. It doesn't really matters for partys, i go there to relax, play music(cause i'll be there with friends and we're all musicians from quebec)meet nice people, smoke good charas and if there is, party, banana tree, disco valley, bamboo forest, the nine bar... i can't wait to be there!!!

There is a beautiful beach called Querim or Kerim at the very North of Goa, very quiet and there are no sellers to bother people. I have Indian friends who run the Dolphin shack, one of only about five shacks, where you can have a lovely quiet drink and watch the Dolphins swim, best to see them early in the morning. Not a lot of places to stay, no shops but ask in the shack and they can recommend. I want it to stay quiet, naturally, but I also want my friends to earn a decent living before the likes of Goinig Places and Thomas Cook start erecting huge hotels and make it over run. Dilemma for sure.

Hi all!
I went to Goa in 1996, 1997 and 2003. In 2004 I went to Thailand for the 1st time, where I spent a month on Koh phangan. Me and friends went to one of the full moon parties in Had rin and that was like a JOKE! A long beach with many shacks all playing different music! We even heard Britney Spears How crazy isn't that??? I like one Dj!!!!The beach was full of drunk, young people peeing or puking everywhere and throwing bottles everywhere. But friends told me that they have half moon parties which are supposed to be good but the full moon one put me off from going to other parties. And then you had the crazy thai police I know for sure that I'm going back to Goa but I don't think I'll go back to Thailand. Mangogirl |

Arambol is a great quiet beach up north... I lived there for a month this past Feb and enjoyed it. Lots of people playing live music in the various shacks and bars at least 3-4 times per week. Plus, it's only a 25-30 minute ride to Arpora or Anjuna for the markets. Arpora has the saturday night market and Anjuna has the wednesday market.

That's a pity, because the average Thai beach is not at all like Haad Rin in Koh Phangan on a Full Moon Party night. Even on that same island the other beaches are absolutely beautiful and the FMP crowd leaves in the morning after. Thailand has got so many wondrous beach locations anyway, utterly unspoiled at the moment — and IMHO more beautiful, in terms of natural beauty, than even the best Goan beaches — like Koh Chang, Koh Lanta, Koh Lipe, Koh Samet, Koh Mun Nork, different beaches on which are distinct from the other, and each of these hundreds of islands distinct from everyone else (just remember to skip Phuket and Koh Samui and Phangan on a Full Moon Party night).
Or if you're truly loaded: try Cocoa Island in the Maldives. Absolutely stunning (not that I can afford it.. yet). Money can buy paradise (and keep out everyone else from it). Quote:
