Interesting,Unusual,Offbeat Places with a story to them
Hi,
My name's Rohit, and I'm doing some research for a college project about places in India that have something interesting, unique or strange about them. Like the Shani-Shingnapur village in Maharashtra where all houses are without doors. Need to find 15-20 places like this one. Could be roads, temples, tribes,villages...pretty much anything with a fun story, as long as it's not in one of the metros..does anyone know of stuff like this? |

hey very interesting....but under which course are you doing this project? just wanted to know...
anyways here is my contribution: Mohammadpur Umri, a little village near Air Force base of Bamrauli, Allahabad of India is full of Twins. In a population of 600 there are thirty pairs of Twins. This is quite a high number considering that even two pairs would have made the Village unique.Dr.Lalji Singh, Director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad accepts thatgenetically this village is a gold mine.A village elder Shafique Miyan recollects that the earliest pair of Twins born was sometimeafter India’spartition in 1947...... http://www.shvoong.com/newspapers/in...village-twins/ |

Yes ! That was in 2008. But that fire was interpreted as the penalty for their sins (they grew best Cannabis in India) and now the village is on the path to literally weeding out the evil.

There is a temple by a river in southern Karnataka that appears every so often (12 years or something like that). After some period of time, it is buried by shifting sands for another 12 years. I've been there, but can't remember the details.
