info on off beat places in Himachal
Hi, Im planning to travel with a fren of mine to Himachal. Am planning to go to Tosh and chill for a bit. I would like to know similar places like Tosh and Malana, which are not crowded and selective people come there. Also we both girls will be travelling alone so would like to know what would be the best option to go to Tosh from Manali. Would really appreciate help. Thanx

Jispa 22 kms away from Keylong and 4 kms ahead of Ghemur.
Just on the edge of the river Bhaga is a small PWD rest house Suraj Taal situated well on the summit of the Baralacha la, a little below an altitude of 16000 feet. Chandrataal is situated at about 14,000 ft above msl between a low ridge and about nine kms from the Kunzom pass. Udaipur 53 kms away from Keylong. Famous for Trilokinath temple & Markula Devi temple Gondhla 18 kms from Keylong |

Hi! If the produce of Tosh and Malana are a priority for you then you could spend sometime in the area around Banjar(Jhibi,Shoja) and in the valley at the other side of the Jalori pass, closer to Parvati and not so high and cold.

Hi Voyager, thanx for the info. It is not about the produce of those places.I have been to those places once and just stayed only for a night.I really liked those places and want to explore more places like that which are hidden and not exploited, not expensive and a world within itself, away from the maddening crowd and rush of tourists, where i can just read and chill.

Hi! OK,then Spiti,or at least several places in the valley, surely meets your requirements,it has never seen crowds of tourists, and some places hardly any.

Jispa is located about 145 km from Manali via Rohtang Pass. The 51 km drive from Manali to Rohtang can take about three hours; it is a steep ascent, the road quality is below par and traffic can halt at places due to landslides or broken down vehicles. Continue a further 65 km to Keylong, but don’t forget to tank up at Tandi (about 9 km before Keylong) as the next fuel station is only 30 km before Leh. (It is always a good idea to carry some extra fuel in a jerry can in case Tandi is closed or out of fuel, or you decide to take some detours). About 16 km from Rohtang, also watch out for a junction where you keep left; the right turn will take you to Lahaul and Spiti Valley. From Rohtang, the drive to Jispa can take about three hours. But do provision for a lunch break too; your options are either the shacks along the way or some restaurants in hotels in Keylong.
The bus services are available from Manali at 5.15, 6, 7.15,8.15 and 10 AM, reaches Keylong in 6.30 hours via Rotang Pass, Gramphu and Khoksar. There are buses from Manali to Banjar. From Banjar Jhibi is 35 kms. You can take taxi or local bus. You can goto SurajTal from Jispa. You can go to Manali as buses take this route for Manali-Leh. |
