Hotels in Mumbai (Nov) and Down south for Xmas and NYE

Hi all,

I'm counting down the days until I embark upon my first trip to India (47 days to go!!)

My girlfriend and I are 23 and travelling together.

We are flying into Mumbai on Nov 21 and I want to have a place booked.

We want to stay somewhere as cheap as possible as long as it is clean and comfortable (maybe 40aud/night).

Also, we will be down south for Christmas and New Years. I want some advice on where would be good to be on those dates.

We're not massive party people, but it would be good to be somewhere pretty big on New Years, but somewhere tranquil over Christmas.

Thanks for your advice,

Fitz

Have you ever thought of PG accommodations--paying guests at someone's home? Maybe other members on India Mike's could help out here. The way I see it is that the hotel prices are going sky-high, especially in Mumbai, and there are a lot of great Indians who may have an extra room, who have good standards, and cook well. You'd have a lot more fun.

So members and moderators, isn't there some way this could work out? I mean, there's got to be many widows who has a big apartment and could use the money and would love to have someone to fuss over.

The Salvation Army Hostel in Mumbai is cheap and in a good location. They have dorms and rooms. Rooms are like 750 rupees now with meals included. Your sure to meet other travelers there as it's a popular place to stay.
