No snowfall around Munsyari. Even Kalamuni, Betulidhar and Khalia top are without a trace of snow!

1. Do you want to see snow...?
2. Or do you want to feel snow...?
3. Or do you want to let the fresh snowflakes land softly on the tip of your nose...?

For 1., there are many places, where you'll get excellent views - Mukteshwar, Kausani, Binsar, Ranikhet, all in Kumaon... And Chamba, Dhanaulti, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Khirsu, Auli and many others in Garhwal...

For 2., all the above places, but only a month or so later... And you have to be lucky...!

For 3., you need to be really really very lucky, and also probably need to be even higher up in the Himalayas...!

Cheers...!

Thank you solo_trekker for the lovely information.

I guess Ranikhet will be my destination on the first day of 2010. One more quicky here, if I leave from Delhi on 31st night will it be a problem due to the new year eve, as I will be leaving with my wife in an hired indica.

Any open suggestions are most welcome

Regards

That should not pose a problem if you leave early! However, the roads might have a more-than-normal rush, so its advisable that you have have time in hand to reach the station.

New Year's Eve is something just for the metros, and to some extent the hill stations (where the metro-dwellers head to make merry)...

On the road, it's just another night for everyone else...
Hardly makes any difference...

There is an alternative route you could consider for Ranikhet...
This is via Ramnagar, Mohan and Bhatrojkhan...
Much fewer vehicles, but its best to do it when the sun is up...
Ideal to just follow some other vehicle...
Leaving at 1.00 or 2.00 am if you are taking this route is thus an ideal option...

And you get to welcome the new year before embarking on your trip...!

Cheers...!
