Is it possible to make a forum rule under which any thread not having fresh posts - say for more than one year - may be locked by the Mods?

I do recognise that onus is on the posters to look at the date of last posting before replying. But when it becomes quite often, it is better to look for the systems to find a solution to the kind of situation in which many of us do post on such threads without looking at the last posting date .

Sadanand,

I think, I have seen some personal filtering options on IM ... wherein you can, yourself, set a date prior to which the posts will not be shown to you .... I have to look for that now. Let me know if you find it first... KS

Unless there is an automatic system, it would be too much work

And there have been threads which have been revived after a year, or more, so not sure closing them would be a good idea.

thread options

SK .... I found something under "User CP" i.e. User Control Panel ... "EDIT Options" ... "Default Thread Age Cut-off" .... maybe this might help? .... I dont know if this goes by Thread Start Date (which we dont want to cut off) .... or by Individual Post Dates (which we perhaps want) ? ..anyway have to see in detail. ... KS

I see merit in your point. For instance, one of the bijapuri's thread which has been recently revived for good reasons.

One of the "best" diary and detailed day-wise trek for all Nepal treks are at this site:

http://www.yetizone.com/

There see EBC Trek details under: Everest & Khumbu

BTW: I have found Lonely Planet's Guide Book "Trekking in Nepal Himalays" absolutely superb! ... to the minutest possible details ... not only about Nepal & Everest trek .... but how to be prepared for any Trek and What to carry, when to go etc. etc.
