Smile Day-trip get-aways from Bangalore

Sometimes the only day you get to relax is a sunday and its good to be able to get away from the city for the day. So could you good folks suggest some off-beat destinations? I already know about Achalu betta and Tonnur lake thanks to contributions from members on this forum. How about some more ideas and destinations?

if its just a weekend, dont go to far.
Try these.
Bheemeshwari 100 kms
Nandi hills 60 kms..(but anybody who has stayed in bangalore can tell u that like mysore, its been done to death)
Shivanasamudram 109 kms
other places like kabini, nagarhole, even hampi are good but they are all over 200 kms. not really worth it if u have just a saturday and sunday. it wud be more tiring that pleasurable.
good luck though for your trip.
Actaully there is a old farmhouse kinda thing barely 30 kms from bangalore. thats ideal for a night. cant remember the name...i think its called 'aangana' . google it and it might be a good break from the hustle and bustle of the new bangalore...oops bengaluru

Srirangapatnam and Mysore

Don't miss the bird sanctuary at S early am (can even stay overnight at the karnatka tourism hotel at srirangapatnam, nice place near the river, but book in advance for weekends)

nandi hills is overrated.

You can do cave exploration at Antargange near Kolar.
Please make sure that you take a local guide into the caves else you may get lost inside.

Shivaganga (~56 km NW of BLR I think), which you could link up with something else in the area, a series of temples the spiral up a massive granite formation. Watch out for the nasty monkeys. The countryside up there is amazing - green rolling meadows with granite domes. I also went to Devarayanadurga on the same excursion, but it wasn't as interesting.

How are the Antargange? From this article in the Deccan Herald, I get the impression of a place that might be interesting on a Tuesday morning, but one likely overrun with people on the weekend.

You might want to try Doddamakali which is the 3rd fishing camp on the Cauvery. If you want to stay there Jungle Lodges has a basic camp.

There is also Georgia village on the way to Doddamakali (before the hydro plant) which is serene and a good place to spend a day. You would need to inform the people there in advance if you would like to stay/ eat there.

i know banergatta is not really a place for a habitual traveller anymore, but i believe there are tree huts out there run by karnataka tourism. That should be interesting for a weekend.
