c.p cavafy - the city...

poetry...mmmm...maybe we should ban this bloke.....

c.p.cavafy wrote something called "the city".

it seems relevant to our preoccupation with india...and travelling....and seeking new things.

and eventually leads me to my question...

what are the views/opinions on staying in one place for the duration of your visa?

(those reading "the city" before responding will be awarded extra points.)

I did read The City:

No matter where you go, there you are again. Especially if you're the Camus type.

As long as the mind gets exercised from periodic exposure to different thoughts, ideas & persepctives then one should not grow mentally old nor mentally grey before their time.

Remaining static in an exotic and historic country like India cannot be compared with remaining static in the average run-of-the-mill city that you were raised in.

I think William Dalrymple, who spent 5 years living in Delhi, is a good example of someone who found a single city that he enjoyed, was inspired by, made the most of socially & then quickly soon after - financially.
