Sorry. Been away from my computer.
I would likely be in the Patna Sasaram Rohtas area in mid January or perhaps February 2009. I would like to take a local bus to Rohtas from Sasaram, where I would most likely be staying for a couple of days. I am essentially trying to find out firstly if the fort is in decent shape which would warrant a visit and whether there is a local bus plying the road from Dehri to Rohtasgarh. Finally,I would just like to get an idea as to whether travelling the above route on a day trip from Sasaram would be reasonably safe for me to travel on my own. Any info would be much appreciated. |

i missed aihole b/c i couldn't change TC.s in Badami and my ATM funds had run out ,so I had to go to Bijapur using my last ruppees :-(. Gulbarga was good too.
I'd love to see sarasam in Bihar but Malda, Pandua and Gaud are safer and easier to get and also in the east and easy to reacj from Kolkata. They are on my list for sure for trip #4. UNESCO have made Champeneer in Gujarat a world heritage site and it is loaded w. muslim monuments and few tourists. |

I went through Gulbarga en route to/from Bijapur and Badami and did not stay there as the Lonely Planet guide had nothing on Gulbarga. After returning home I discovered there was a lot to see there and other guide books had useful info on it ie Footprint and Rough Guide. I also went to Malda and the entire town was full up. I could not find a room anywhere so I headed on up to Darjeeling which was very cold (in January). BTW Murshidabad south of a few hours south of Malda is full of interesting historical sites with no foreign tourists in site. It is worth a few days visit.

BTW looking at some flickr photos of Champener it looks very interesting as well. The person who posted the photos commented on the fact there were no tourists at all at the site.It appears that Gujarat gets very few tourists. Any idea what the rest of the state is like as far as interesting historical ruins/sites etc?

gujarat state is loaded with untouristed muslim/historical ruins. The unesco world heritage web site for champaneer has a 3d virtual tour for 'quick time player' software users.Amazing.That is my number one place for trip #5 in about 3 years
PM me more for me. "Footprints" is the book for muslim ruins buffs like us.They have a map of gulbarga and quite a bit on other deccani sites too. . Forget LP, they are for nerdy package tourists. pm me 4 more , i mean did i type earlier trip number 4? I have just done trip number 4..... http://asi.nic.in/asi_monu_tktd_delhi_sultangarh i.asp you could spend 3 weeks in Gujarat seeing muslim/old ruins and not see it all. It is the main of my next trip which will be trip #5.The unesco world heritage web site has 3 d photo tour which you can use if you have quick time player. Thanks for the info on Gujurat safai vala. I will get the footprint guide as I am getting increasingly irrated with the LP guide. What also appeals to me about Gujurat is it's relative proximity to classic sites like Aurangabad, Mandu, Bhopal, etc. I think I could nicely fit it in after spending time in the Bhopal area....I will pm you when I have a lttle more computer time. Junagadh was once a small muslim ruled state that was to join Pakistan in 1947. The nawab's hindu subjects said NO WAY and he ran off to karachi with his huge collection of hunting dogs and left his servants behind!.

hey man, if you are going to Bihar then stop in at jaunpur and the mughal era chunar fort over the border in eastern UP and see some fine Sultaanate sites at jaunpur with huges mosques from the 1400's etc.
If i were to visit Sarasam i would take a hire car with driver at dawn from benares and hire an armed guard and take food for the day to avoid being drugged or mugged. |
