Different folks , different strokes . We found Bundi a very nice friendly town .Except the ROYAL RETREAT !!!!!! Stopped one day for a meal ,and had to wait ages for our food and when it arrived it was bland and boring ,and when the bill arrived i collapsed on the floor writhing (even this did not bring the price down) Finally paid the bill and left ,Vowing never to set foot in the establishment again

Bundi

We are visiting Bundi on our next trip to India and have booked into the Haveli Braj Bhushanjee which is a former royal residence run by brothers of the original family. They have an excellent website - http://www.kiplingsbundi.com/ - that has lots of information on Bundi and details of the hotel.

We want to travel from Orcha to Bundi but there doesn't seem to be a train to Kota(which is the nearest station to Bundi) so it looks as if we'll have to hire a car and driver.

Stayed in Bruj Bhushanjee Haveli last September. The hotel is good but pricey. Take the standard rooms as they are similar to the more expensives. People/owners are kind but a bit odd, as an example, they don't accept indian buyers in his shop. They also have vegetarian food ( restaurant is not open to the public, you must arrange for it, and they do not serve alcoholic drinks) quite expensive. Only air coolers in the rooms no AC.

Probably next time I'll stay in another place, may be Haveli Katkoum just few metres away.

Since there may be a next time for you, I'll update this old thread with some more recent info for you...
Katkoun has great food.

We stayed at Kasera Paradise. I think it's the newest Kasera property...the owner lady was very cool - also on the same street right below the palace. We liked it.

Katkoun Guesthouse

We went to Bundi last year. It was wonderful. We stayed at the Katkoun Guesthouse and were totally happy with it. The guy that runs it is a very friendly young man who frequently took the time to chat with us. That's where I took the photo of this little guy - Kush - who was his much beloved nephew. The rates were about 350 RP per night I think. The room we had was lovely and spacious with private bathroom with shower. The food was nice and you can go up on the rooftop and have a good view of part of town and the palace and fort up above. Watch the monkeys though. They get very close, sitting up on the walls watching for you to turn your head for just a mo so they can get your camera or bag. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a monkey pawnshop business running somewhere there.

All in all, I'd definately go back to Katkoun again.

After yesterday's site crash (see message on top of main page), here's me hoping that guy with the Bundi (Boondi) pics will repost his link. Great stuff.

Just returned from India and LOVED it.

I will add that the only place I hated was Bundi.
Women beware!

The men were aggressive to us, even though we had a male with us.We were suddenly mobbed by a large group of men who were very threatening and were getting right in our faces. My friend was very intimated and they reacted like mad animals with maniacal laughing in her face.
This was after being abused for no obvious reason, having someone try to run over my friends foot, and a child throw something at us.

All in the space of one street turn.

It must have just been a "bad hair day" for them.

i have been to Bundi. Its definitely worth a stay for a day. The palace/fort, the lake, the step wells, the cenotaphs at the edge of town and the 800 lights temple (or something) are worth a see. The bazar has a lot of colour and character. The phallic TV tower is an eyesore though.

Great photos, deeps79! I really enjoyed them and Bundi too when i stayed there with my friends in Feb - we stayed at Royal Retreat. Sorry to hear of your experiences, White Flower - we were 3 middle aged women and no one bothered us!! It must have been a real pain in the neck for you. We all loved Bundi, easy to walk to stepwells etc. And for us, a fairly quiet small town with friendly people.
