I never left!
I think my GH was called the Lake View (listed in the Rough Guide) - it's the last on the left of a handful of guesthouses through the gate beneath the fortress, overlooking a completely dry tank (lake) to the rear. Family-run, nice rooms along an inner courtyard. I was the only guest when I visited Bundi last year in March. Mind the monkeys - keep the windows shut...

Stayed at the Lake View guesthouse as well.
Rooms from 70 Rs to 200 Rs (basic to nice) , and the lake covered with (low) water in November . Definately think about monkeys grabbing stuff left alone ... Nice, relaxed place ! Below, Tommy the (friendly) house dog, keeping an eye on a langoor monkey on the roof . Last edited by dreamsyndicate : Feb 17th, 2005 at 07:51. |

Simeon: you could try it in the lake near town, but it's also where people wash their bicycles...

We have stayed in the Uma Megh Guesthouse I think it is next to lake view.
They have a nice garden overlooking the lake. They serve food there aswell. One image of the room and one of the view are attached: |

Room was if I remember correct (I can look this up when home): 300Rs/350RS for a double .
Shared bath, hotwater all day, there were towels, but not clean. The room was spacious, there are "air vents" to the other rooms. So you can hear your neighbours, at least the topfloor rooms. Food and prices were reasonable, the ussual fare they also have "Pizza", More like a tea snack, if you're bored with pakora's.Friendly people. |

I defy anyone to name a more friendly, hospitable town in the whole of India. Thus far, Bundi has managed to evade the greedy clutches of mass tourism. I fear this state of innocence may not last too much longer.

I love Bundi too
....stayed at the Royal Retreat (just below the the palace) which was lovely.A group of us just dropped in for lunch (which in the end was finally served up around 7pm!!) at the Haveli Elephant Stable guest house - think owned by Raj and Neema. Talk about Indian Stretchable Time, but the wait was well worth it with "JP - Always Happy" and his charming mate entertaining us with his bollywood dance moves and funny antics under the stars on a warm evening, such a great night. This was without doubt one of the most genuinely friendly and welcoming families I came across, the wife gave us all a mendhi, the boys read our palms, the food kept coming (for an incredibly reasonable price) and they saw us off with a garlands of flowers the next morning for a safe trip. Yes indeed, Bundi is a truely beautiful place and I was sad to leave. |

) food, in a -- to us -- upmarketish bracket but with a beer and watching the palace against the starlit sky, who's to complain about prices right. Reasonable enough as I remember anyway (food 75 Rs. and up, beer a very reasonable 50 Rs. I see now -- hey this was then mind!) It's got a "most romantic" note in my book. Very friendly people, they were expecting room prices to be in the 300-575 range at the time, wonder what it's like now. Anyway really glad to hear they managed and fared well apparently!

bundi palace
hi everybody, we visited bundi 3 days ago, there's a 2 weeks festival, we saw 1st day and was fantastic! the town is non tourist and people is friendly and relaxed. we visit the palace, some rooms and gardens are full of monkeys and people say us that palace was closed for 50 years. now seems a ghost palace, good for a horror movie, food for imagination! anyone got notice about palace and maraja?
anyway go to bundi, kasera hotel is really good, they got rooms for every budget. bye enjoy! |

I was in Bundi in July. It really was a mistake. It`s one of the dirtiest and smelliest towns I`ve been to. Definitely not worth such a hype.
