I once trekked from a place called Dhareswar near Honnavar up north to Gokarna along the beach. Passed thro' some lovely beaches Kumta, Bada,Paradise ,Kudla, Om beach and others. Lovely views all along and slept two nights on the beach. The best of all was Tadadi where the river Aghnashini joins the sea, marvellously beautiful from on top a nearby cliff.

Kelva is the one I have visited most recently - idylllic - 2 hrs from BBay off the BBy -Ahmedabad highway. Its not very well known and therefore not touristy ... lovely experience ..

I presume that what yatrayatra has in mind is the beaches along coastal Maharashtra. I have visited Kashid and Naugaon beaches near Alibag very recently and beaches at Harihareshwar and Ganapatipule in late 90's. I find Ganapatipule beach the best amongst what I have seen so far. However, if one goes by the hearsay, Tarkarli beach in south of Maharashtra seems to beat Ganapatipule.

I visited Ganpatipule in the year '98. was totally unexplored at that time. Stayed in tents few mtrs. from the beach. Was a wonderful experience.
Now I am looking to explore Tarkarli. Read in a news article that over there MTDC has started Snorkelling facilities. Also shortly on offer will be a Kerala type houseboat for stay on backwaters. Ronak. |

Tarkarli is one of my favourits. Next to MTDC there is a guest house (cottages) called Gajanan, tel (02365) 253021, mob 9422488055. Cheaper than MTDC. However, the fish thali at MTDC is authentic.
In Malvan there is a very good restaurant call Saiba. Excellent fish. Overnight at Hotel Shrisagar in Ganpatipule tel (02357) 235145, 235345 because MTDC was full. |

Apparently there are even more beaches between Tarkarli and the Goan border worth exploring.....
