Agumbe Ghats, sunrise!

Hi all,

Interesting to read the posts in this site. Feels a bit like an outsider seeing India from the inside. I am Indian living in Singapore and am glad to see the allowances the forum makes for the ideosycracies (spl?) in India.

Have any of you been to Agumbe Ghats in Karnataka? It is about 9 hrs from Bangalore and there is one night bus every day. The place is a forest near a hill, contains a quaint village on the main road with one restaurant with a menu of 4 items. For acco there is just one traveller's bungalow without power or fan @ Rs 50 per night (only provides roof on head, the sheets stank and the place was dirty..didn't pick up any infections though (shd be ok if u carry sleeping bags)!
However, the village itself was very clean and the forest path starts 5 mins away. The straight path leads to what is the best sunrise in India (donno during which months), and the off-shoots which take u to the forests. Really wonderful place with streams to lie in and a couple of small waterfalls to sit under. The water washing all over me was the best feeling...
Lots of leaches if u move off the path in monsoon, but we met some tribes living in the forests and they gave us a root (herb) which when applied on the legs keeps leeches away...(the currency we used for payment, was a warm smile and a thank you).

This was really the most beautiful place I have ever been to and I recommend it strongly. However it doesn't appear in any of the travel guide books which is why I decided to mention it.
