A Rudraksha Tree at Haridwar (Vyas Mandir)

When we visit Uttaranchal and other holy places, the first thing we notice is the thick Rudraksha Malas on the holy and those appearing to be holy. However, I had not seen a Rudraksha tree before. The tourist guides usually say that one has to travel deep into the himalayas to see one. However, I was able to spot one in the Vyas Mandir at Haridwar. They had planted a large number of Rudraksha saplings and two of them have grown to large trees. I was however not able to see the formation of the beads but able to spot some fruits and the Rudraksha flower.

The details are available on my blog post at:

There are a lot of Rudraksha trees around, It is humbug about travelling deep into Himalayas to see one! Have seen one for years at my guru's kutiya and now have one in my own house!

Saw one in in Coonor too.

The gardeners collect the seeds and sell them for a few rupees. Whilst I can't help thinking it would be nice to have a mala that came from a tree one has seen, I'm afraid the beads I brought back with me are in one of those boxes where things that I am getting around to languish.
