This does not strictly count as off-beat. But I’ve done a LOT of research online or at least tried to, and Google seems surprisingly reserved on the subject! I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I’m looking for somewhere to stay in the mountains for about 10 days at the end of December/beginning of Jan. I’m posting this here in the hope that someone has stayed in a place like this.
1. Preferably a cottage with a porch and an open view of mountains and greenery. 2. The “town”, by which I mean restaurants and cafes within a 20-minute to half-hour walk 3. Internet access not necessary – I will probably find it in a café 4. At least occasional electricity to charge laptop 5. Not too lonely a spot because security shouldn't be a problem 4. The tedious housekeeping stuff needs to be done without me 6. Not too expensive, don’t need luxury but definitely need hot water and a comfortable bed! 7. It could be a homestay with an independent entrance or something on a plantation or a cut-price hill resort 8. As for activities, I will do day treks and much walking, but mostly I will be sitting in some café or the other and writing. Or on the aforementioned porch. In Chikmaglur, Coorg and the Nilgiris there are several reasonably priced coffee and tea estate stays that meet the requirements, but I’m looking for something in the vicinity of the Himalayas. The place I was researching was Mussorie. Does anyone know? |

Send me a pm. There is one place that takes guests, it's a paradise, but not meant for everyone.

The place I have in mind is called Kuflon Basics. Situated in a very quiet and beautiful are about half an hour out of Uttarkashi town. They have just built new cottages where you can sit and watch the mountains in relative peace. Broadband Internet cafe in town, food and all else available on demand. Great place for a relaxing holiday. Great walks and treks around the area.

If you are looking for accommodation in the Himalayas then check out Sitla Estate near Mukteshwar, its a bit more than you might want to spend but its off season so a deal could be done and in terms of food and location its the best we have stayed at.
