| 24 days in and out of Delhi Hi- My wife and I have 3+ weeks to travel in late December to early January. We were thinking of doing the Rajasthan/Varanasi/Agra triangle, but lately have been thinking that something more off the beaten track might be more interesting. We are not interested in a back-packing type trip. We'll probably hire a car and driver. We like to travel slowly and get to know places a bit. Would be interested in some bigger cities and some smaller towns. We'd welcome any suggestions. Thanks. -Howard |

| If this is your first trip to India, then stick close to your original plans. If you've been more than once, then consider more offbeat spots. I only say this because the more traditional route you are thinking about is popular for a reason and you are traveling in the absolutely best season to enjoy it & it's actually fantastic. I know from many trips that India has thousands of interesting places & many that are less frequented by tourists. That doesn't make them better or more interesting than what you will see in the triangle you've chosen. In the U.S. I wouldn't tell a tourist to avoid Times Square, The Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Bldg., Yosemite National Park, Bryce or Zion National Parks, etc. because they are so popular! Nothing local, small or off the beaten path about those places but I think they are all interesting culturally or extraordinary sights! ![]() |
