Hi!

There are large number of Holiday Homes at Puri run by various Corporate Houses, Banks, Clubs, Co-Operative Societies, mostly managed and controlled from Kolkata. Some are housed at rented places with attached bath, kitchen (with kitchen utencils, LPG etc.). Some are located in Hotels under long-term contract basis. Few are well located, sea facing, clean, some are not. But one thing is common for all ... it is cheap!!!

I am sure many of us stayed in such Holiday Homes at Puri. Let us share our experience, rate the establishment (in a scale of 0-10) booking procedure, locations, sea view or not, facilities available etc. etc. Let us start...

Sorry, didn't stay in a holiday house. I stayed in a western oriented hotel, licking my wounds.
I took a lot of opium, and hashish, and stumbled around the tourist traps being stared at by holidaying Indians.

we stayed in such holiday home at puri for many times. (we were visit puri generally once in a year ).in 2006 and 2007 we stayed in a holiday home runned by IOB. it is situated in the hotel sea view. rooms are good, sea facing.... toilets are western and the kitchens are well equiped with all utensils. i think it is a good one. i rate the establishment 7 out of 10.

I just read your thread regarding holiday home in Puri. I intend to visit Puri along with my family members (total 7 persons + my kid of 7 month old)from 21-24 jan 2012.Do you have any idea of good holidayhome in puri...can you please pass me the contacts of such holiday homes which you will recommend. I need kitchen facilities for my kid ( thats why preferring holiday home rather than a hotel). It should be budjet, as well as not far from the beach. we don't mind even if it doesn't have sea view.....

looking forward to your reply

Instantly two Holiday Homes comes to my mind, where I stayed once. First one is Tata Sport Club Holiday Home, situated near Raj Hotel, close to Marine Drive Road. Clean, Kitchen, Utensils, LPG, spaciaous (I think they allow 4 persons in a room), close to sea beach (sea is visible from balcony). The other one is managed by Shipping Corporation of India(SCI) Co-op Credit Society. It is bang on the beach, Swargadwar. Fab location, but noisy. Kitchen facilities are also available in this place. Booking for the first one is available from TATA House, Chowringhee Road. Go to the Reception and tell them that you wish to book Puri Holiday Home. They will guide you. They allow outsiders. For the second one, you have to go SCI House located near New Secretariate Building. I have a book on Holiday Homes written by one Mr. Ajoy Mondal. It is very useful for the budget travelers. For my various trips within the country, it has helped me a lot. It is available at College "Boi Para". Buy the latest edition only. Hope, this helps!

As regards Aajkaal Holiday Home, I haven't stayed there personally, but I have heard good reports. I think booking is done both from their old office on Ram Mohan Roy Road as well as from their new office at Salt Lake. If Mother Dairy Holiday Home is situated at "Shayajyoti" building, its location should be good because this particular building is on Marine Drive Road, facing sea. This building housed quite a few Holiday Homes, and most the rooms are sea facing.

dont know if they still have them - but most of the chai [tea] companies in kolkata had a holiday home in puri.
one could go there for free - but had to be recommended by an executive in the company.

here is the carrit moran guest house - right on the beach !!

Thanks a lot asish babu....I have just managed the state transport's holiday home in Sea view hotel....but they forced us to book 1 extra day . I mean they only give bookings for 5 days though our trip is for 4 days...thats terrible

Can you please tell me the name of the book....is it by asia publishing? I mean those who publish bhromon songi?
