1 night in vizag
1 night in vizag
Hello
We will fly in to Vizag from Kolkata and have only 1 night there before catching the train to Koraput.
Seems best to stay in town, not too far from station, rather than out at one of the beaches.
We would welcome suggestions for a budget hotel, and what to do/where to eat in the evening.
Many thanks

Hi Caroline, there are plenty of hotels in Visag including budget although at times I have found it difficult to get a room in any of the mid range hotels without booking.
Orange comes first to mind as it is a no frills, no room service, small but clean and functional rooms with free WiFi. http://www.orangehotels.in/visakhapatnam/index.html
It is halfway between the beach and the station (10 minutes or less by auto early morn) and has a lot of experience with foreigners as it is often used by ship crew changes. It is on a roundabout and the radial street it corners has a handful of hotels 100m's or so away from Orange.
If only staying for one night it should be fine, although some of the Trip Adviser reviews indicate otherwise. Seem to me these complaints were related to guests not accepting the fact it is a no frills, no room service hotel and the reviewers may have received the same treatment from the staff as they gave to them.
If Mrs Kalayani is still behind the helm it will prove quite adequate for your needs, but for meals you could try the Daspalla or Dolphin, both a few minutes away or the dining rooms in any of the smaller hotels up the radial street mentioned earlier.
Green Park buffet left a lot to be desired despite the advertising but the ice cream was good.
Depending on what time you arrive and your interests you could get an auto and go to Bhimini 20klms along the ocean drive or just an evening along the promenade of the city beach before dinner somewhere.
You will have to make some arrangement for breakfast as the train for Koraput leaves at 6.50am, therefore you should be at the station by 6.30am latest. There should be autos at the front of the hotel but you could make arrangements for one to be there for you in the morning.
A visit to the supermarket the evening before should see you ok for train food and you should get to Koraput before 2 pm. Have a good trip. V
