HAHA , well I am not endorsing Subhash Ghai BTW, I remember when Manisha Koirala said that he tried to "casting couch" her when they were making their film together...

and suryakund, "He's (Ghai) also past his creative expiration date", nice one Ghai is past his prime, but "Kisna" did have some good stuff in it.

And that woman who wrote the article for Salon (from the post on the other page) I think she has also posted stories on Bollywhat.com about her BW extra experiences. They are great stories. I do believe she got all her parts by hanging out in Colaba and just being asked to be an extra for films.

was not my point. it was that she's an accredited journalist and not nescesarily a bollywood groupie(AFIK). so it wasn't by accident that those wonderful adventures happenned to her. It's atypical. most tourists would get into maybe *one* bwood film ...

Anyway, the story in SALON that Digital Drifter links to below is really great as far as the OP is concerned. This woman with the intent of getting on some Bollywood movies did so and in the story tells you how you can do it too. (the author is an active Bollywood fan, she belongs to Bollywhat forum and has contributed articles to that site as "Kaya".) Great link BTW Digital Drifter, thanks.

Of course this is how to make it as an EXTRA on a Bollywood film (and as was explained in the movie Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, "once an extra, always an extra") Now all we want to know is, how do I make it as a STAR in Bollywood?

As the article writer explains. Being an extra in a Bollywood film has become one of the "experiences" of travel in India. A number of members on IM have had the experience of being a film extra during India trips. I think its totally cool and would love to see everyone's Bollywood adventures compiled on IM someday

Feb. 10, 2005 | I was a Bollywood stuntwoman. I like saying that. If I lived in a place where people threw cocktail parties, rather than in the cow tundra of upstate New York, that's the first thing I'd say while reaching for a canapé.

The pinnacle of my short but glorious career came a few weeks ago, when the Indian epic "Kisna" opened at theaters around the world, including in the U.S. It was Bollywood's biggest release so far this year, by India's showiest director, Subhash Ghai, and marked a significant step in international relations: The lead actress isn't local, but British and blond. I was her stunt double. On holiday in India, and with no acting experience, I found that the fastest road to filmdom may begin in Mumbai.

I also have wondered if it might be possible to get work (maybe even REAL work) in Mumbai as a model or actor, even though I've got no real experience and I'm already 35 years old.

I scratched the surface a bit when I was hanging out with a Mumbai friend a couple months ago and it seemed promising. My friend has some contacts I talked to and they were encouraging, saying that the prospects are good for a decent looking gora/gori with some kind of professional photo portfolio made up. I was advised to get one done (probably at least Rs.15000, yikes!) and start contacting agencies. I never followed up, but I might in the coming months.

I'm not so sure that selling shirts and shaving cream is in line with my values, but if it means I get to live India....
