Where to buy a DSLR in Mumbai

Hello all

I am going to Mumbai on Monday (my first time to India) and I need to buy a new camera.

Could anyone recommend a shop that sells DSLR cameras?

Many thanks

your best prices and selection will be in Korea, not India.

yes jjmehta is the best option.

Alternately you can try Manish Market & Musafir Khana near Crawford market (5 mins. walking distance from VT station). Also there are no. of shops near the VT (Now called CST) station.

At least you can check out JJ Mehta's site, so that you know for sure whether you would be getting a better deal at home or in India.

My first option will be Vartak photo near CST station. I don't know the exact address but I guess if you come out of the main entrace of the station, thats where the taxis get in and out, cross the bus station and start walking towards right, in a block or two, you have this very dencet store.
My sincere apologies for such lousy directions but I will post exact details, if I manage to in a day or two, till then, remember Vartak Photo. This was the only store I found where they had really up to date information and very decent price.

I have heard that JJ Mehta sells grey market stuff sometimes (the stuff that is not made for Indian market but obtained from gulf or malaysia)

I am curious why you don't buy in Korea. Any chance you might be changing planes in HK or Singapore?

Yes, but it is clearly mentioned by them which one is gray and which one is legal. For most of gray market stuff they offer 3 months warranty while for legal stuff they offer manufacturer warranty.

Just to clarify, gray market does not mean illegal. Such products are usually imporetd and sold legally in a country and are taxed properly. The term only means that the official importer did not sell it and will not support it. This is why the store is offering its own warranty.

If one pays the import duty then it will be priced similar to goods sold by company, in which case people will simply not buy it unless it’s some thing that is not available through official channels.

If i am not wrong prices are quoted for all products there, look out for this sign <click>in price table. But you have chances to find new offers/discount if you mail/call them before placing orders.

JJmehta does not give any warranty .They also do not give a receipt of sale. I had bought a sony digital camera from them. The real shop of jjmehta is a small nondescript show in on of the crowded lanes outside the dadar west station. Luckily my camera worked well and didnt need to use the warranty .
